STAFF ACCOUNTANT

OVERVIEW

Douglas Shaw & Associates is a full-service marketing and direct response agency serving non-profit, primarily faith-based organizations. We assist clients with strategic planning, tactical execution, and full-cycle analytics for any variety of integrated fundraising programs. JOB DESCRIPTION

To provide general accounting assistance and related administrative support for the Finance and Accounting team at Douglas Shaw & Associates. This position reports to the Finance Manager and CFO.

Client Invoicing

  • Reconcile project estimates with actual costs for completed projects
  • Prepare, review, and submit all client invoices for approval to client service leads
  • Distribute all invoices to clients and answer billing-related questions
  • Close completed job tickets month-to-month
  • Prepare and distribute A/R Aging Reports for client invoices past 30 days to clients

 

Month End Procedures

  • Analyze jobs in process and prepare accrual entries for Revenue Recognition and related Cost of Goods Sold
  • Analyze, reconcile, and accrue freelance expenses month-to-month
  • Prepare journal entries for monthly asset depreciation
  • Prepare miscellaneous journal entries as needed
  • Responsible for various balance sheet account reconciliations as assigned

 

Cash Management

  • Prepare weekly deposits and cash reports for use with a remote check scanner
  • Review expense reports for accuracy and proper expense categorization and support, reporting any variances to the Finance Manager
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations
  • With input and approval from the Finance Manager, perform month-end standard journal entries

 

 

Miscellaneous

  • Assist or generate management reports as requested by the CFO orFinance Manager
  • Back-up for AP
  • Other projects and responsibilities as needed

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or similar
  • 0-2 years of accounting experience
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and switch gears as needed
  • Goes above and beyond with excellent follow-through and responsiveness
  • Strong Excel skills and technology aptitude, quick learner
  • Comfortable working with data
  • Effective communication skills

 

Special Considerations

Since the company works largely with evangelical Christian nonprofit organizations, a unique sensitivity to client style (beliefs, culture, and preferences) will need to be exercised.
